BIO
Indro Roy-Chowdhury is an internationally acclaimed sitarist, composer, and arranger. A disciple of Pandit Subroto Roy Chowdhury, he represents the illustrious Rampur Senia Gharana through his deeply rooted yet distinctive interpretations of Hindustani classical ragas.
As a soloist, Indro has been featured at some of India's most prestigious music festivals, including the Dover Lane Music Conference and the Uttarpara Music Conference. Beyond the classical tradition, he has emerged as an important voice in Global Music, composing and arranging works for philharmonic and symphony orchestras that have been performed across the United States and Europe.
A versatile collaborative artist, Indro has shared the stage with renowned musicians including jazz legend Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Through his recordings, original compositions, film scores and cross-cultural musical projects, he continues to expand the expressive possibilities of the sitar while serving as a significant contemporary voice of the Indian diaspora. In the academic field, Indro Roy-Chowdhury has served as visiting faculty at the University of Pennsylvania.
